Justice Department Slams Floyd Shivambu for Visiting Fugitive Bushiri in Malawi

JOHANNESBURG – The Department of Justice has strongly condemned Umkhonto weSizwe Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu for attending an Easter service at the Enlightened Christian Gathering in Malawi, led by fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri.
Bushiri and his wife, Mary, fled South Africa in 2020 and are wanted for charges including rape and fraud. Extradition efforts are currently underway.
Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi labeled Shivambu’s visit as a blatant show of disrespect towards South Africa’s legal system.
The MK Party has since distanced itself from Shivambu’s actions in an official statement.
