Tina Jaxa and Anele Matoti Join Cast of Mpondoland Series Amid Controversy

Former Generations actors Tina Jaxa and Anele Matoti have secured roles in the highly anticipated isiXhosa drama series Mpondoland.

The show, produced by Origins Pictures, focuses on the rich heritage and history of the AmaMpondo people.

Joining them are actors Luzoko Nqeto, Ayanda Mankayi, Loyola Xundu, and Siziphiwe Maqubela.

However, the series has sparked controversy, with the AmaMpondo Royal House expressing concerns over not being consulted about the show’s content.

Prince Mbasa Sigcau, spokesperson for the Royal House, revealed that they only learned about the series through the media.

They are worried about the accuracy of the historical information being portrayed.

The Royal House is also concerned that the cast may not accurately speak isiMpondo, as many actors are non-Mpondo speakers.

This concern comes amid ongoing efforts to have isiMpondo recognized as South Africa’s 13th official language. Despite the controversy, filming of the series has already begun in Gauteng.
