President Ramaphosa Becomes the First President to Visit Sasol’s Secunda Plant

In a historic first, President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Sasol’s Synfuels Operations plant in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on October 3, 2024.

Welcomed by Sasol CEO Simon Baloyi, Minister Gwede Mantashe, and Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, President Ramaphosa is the first South African head of state to visit this flagship facility.

The Secunda plant plays a crucial role in the country’s energy and chemicals sector, transforming coal into synthetic fuels and chemicals.

Sasol, contributing 5% of South Africa’s GDP and creating over half a million jobs, briefed the president on its contributions to South Africa’s Just Energy Transition.

Ramaphosa’s visit highlights Sasol’s integral role in the nation’s industrialisation and energy strategies.
