Thousands of Zulu Virgins Celebrate Virginity at 40th Umkhosi Womhlanga Reed Dance

Thousands of Zulu virgins gathered for the Umkhosi Womhlanga (Reed Dance Festival) to honor King Misuzulu by presenting their reeds as a symbol of their triumph over temptation and commitment to preserving their virginity.

The event, held at Enyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal on 14 September, marked 40 years since it was revived by King Misuzulu’s parents, King Zwelithini and Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu.

Before presenting their reeds to the king, the young women undergo virginity testing, and those confirmed as virgins are marked with a white dot on their foreheads.

Among the attendees were the popular musical duo Qwabe Twins (Q Twins), who have participated in the festival before.

They presented their reeds as a way to celebrate their virginity and honor their Zulu heritage.

Virginia Qwabe explained that the festival is a way to show the king that there are still many virgins within the Zulu nation.

The Reed Dance Festival has played a significant role in preserving Zulu culture for young women.

Viggy Qwabe expressed gratitude for the event, saying that it has empowered many women and continues to teach them about their cultural roots.

During the festival, King Misuzulu encouraged the virgins to stay true to themselves and not rush into relationships.

He reassured them that they have time, reminding them that men will always be there, and urged them to focus on their personal growth and success.
