Kwaito Legend Doc Shebeleza Passes Away at 51

Victor Bogopane, famously known as Doc Shebeleza, has passed away at the age of 51 after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed.
Shebeleza, who rose to fame with his 1996 debut album S’Kumfete, was a pioneer in the Kwaito genre. Known for hits such as Kum’nandi, Ebumnandini, and Ghetsa Ghetsa, he also founded the group Amaskumfete, celebrated for songs like Tsipa Tsipa.
Beyond his musical success, Doc Shebeleza’s lyrics resonated deeply with fans, reflecting themes of personal struggles, relationships, and joy. His work inspired many, including artists like Mandoza and Mapaputsi.
In his later years, he focused on philanthropy through his organisation, Amaha, uplifting fellow artists. His enduring legacy was immortalized in Cassper Nyovest’s 2014 hit Doc Shebeleza, showcasing his influence across generations.
