Beandri Booysen, South Africa's Last Progeria Patient, Passes Away at 19

Bea Booysen, the mother of Beandri, has confirmed the passing of her daughter, who lived with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome.

Beandri was 19 years old and the last surviving individual in South Africa with this rare genetic condition, which causes rapid aging in children.

In a Facebook post, Bea shared the heartbreaking news, reflecting on Beandri’s resilience and the challenges she faced, including aortic stenosis and calcification in her aorta.

Despite her medical struggles, Beandri used her unique spirit to inspire over 269,000 followers on TikTok and raise awareness for progeria and special needs.

A BackaBuddy campaign had been started in October to raise funds for Beandri’s open-heart surgery, her ‘biggest challenge yet’.

The family requests privacy during this difficult time.

Further details regarding the memorial service will be shared in due course.
