Police Minister Sends Condolences After Officer Accidentally Shot by Colleague in KwaZulu-Natal
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of a police officer tragically killed in Boboyi, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday, 3 November.
The incident unfolded when eight officers from the Public Order Police and the Port Shepstone K-9 Unit responded to a domestic violence complaint.
During a tactical maneuver involving a stun grenade, a female officer misinterpreted the situation, believing her team was under attack.

In response, she discharged her R-5 rifle, resulting in the death of one officer and injuring another.
Mchunu extended his sympathies to the family of the officer who lost his life, as well as hopes for a full recovery for the injured K-9 Unit member.
He emphasized the commitment to support those affected by this tragedy and vowed to enhance measures to prevent such incidents.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has launched a full investigation into the circumstances, aiming for accountability and to avoid similar events in the future.
