‘7de Laan’ creator Danie Odendaal dead
Veteran TV producer and creator of the beloved South African soap opera 7de Laan, Danie Odendaal, has sadly passed away at the age of 77.
He died on Wednesday, October 30, in Langebaan, Western Cape, following a brief illness.
According to The Citizen, Odendaal’s family confirmed his death in a heartfelt statement, highlighting his life filled with creativity and warmth.

“Danie lived a life full of creativity and warmth, quietly shaping the world around him through his storytelling.
Known for his humour and wit, he had a way of speaking his mind that inspired those fortunate enough to know him,” the family shared.
Danie Odendaal was not only the creator of 7de Laan but also known for his work on other notable productions such as Saartjie and Dennekruin 12.

The SABC is deeply saddened by the passing of Veteran TV producer and creator of SABC2’s 7de Laan Danie Odendaal.

He directed several acclaimed projects, including Gallery, Die Man met ‘n Lyk om sy Nek, and the miniseries Veldslag. His contributions to the South African television industry have left a lasting impact.
Odendaal faced health challenges in recent years, including a stroke in 2019 while living in Pervillac, France, and his health had reportedly declined in the months leading up to his passing.
The family is expected to announce details regarding his memorial and funeral in the coming days.
