Owl Sends Pastor And Congregants To Jail!

Church Leaders Sentenced for Cruelty After Brutal Owl Attack in Limpopo

In a shocking turn of events, a senior pastor and two church members have been sentenced for animal cruelty after attacking and torturing an owl in Limpopo.

Despite common superstitions linking owls to bad luck, the court emphasized the importance of protecting wildlife.

Pastor Charles Mudau of Potters House Word Church, along with Justice Makushu and Albert Mushiana, were sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for five years, or ordered to pay a fine of R20,000 for animal cruelty.

They were also ordered to pay R7,500 each to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

The incident occurred in July 2023, when the accused found a Western Barn Owl at the church.

Instead of allowing it to fly away, they cruelly captured it, hitting it with a stick, pouring salt into its eyes, and dousing it with oil.

The abuse was recorded and shared on social media, leading to outrage and their eventual prosecution.

Traditional healer Dr. Magdeline Moloi noted that while many associate owls with witchcraft, they are simply creatures of God.

Brendan Murray from the Owl Rescue Centre also called for an end to harmful superstitions and urged communities to protect owls rather than mistreat them.

The Owl Rescue Centre has worked tirelessly for over 20 years to educate people on the importance of saving these misunderstood birds. -DailySun
