RIP Liam Payne: What Happened To Former One Direction Star?

English singer and former One Direction member Liam Payne has passed away at the age of 31.

Payne reportedly died on Wednesday, 16 October, after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to police reports shared by CNN.

Payne had been staying in Argentina for over two weeks with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. The singer was last seen attending his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert on 2 October.

Liam Payne rose to fame as part of the popular boyband One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan.

The group formed in 2010 during their time on the UK version of The X Factor.

Authorities received a 911 call from the hotel in the Palermo neighborhood, reporting an aggressive man who was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

However, it has not been confirmed if this was related to Payne’s death.

Payne had previously opened up about his struggles with substance abuse. In July 2023, he revealed he had been six months sober after spending 100 days in rehab.

“I just needed some time to work on myself because I didn’t recognize who I had become,” he said at the time.

The tragic loss has left fans mourning around the world.
