NPA Will Not Prosecute Ramaphosa Over Phala Phala Matter

Phala Phala Case Against President Ramaphosa Dropped by Limpopo Prosecutors

The Director of Public Prosecutions in Limpopo has decided not to prosecute President Cyril Ramaphosa in connection with the Phala Phala Farm scandal.

This follows a 2022 complaint filed by former spy boss Arthur Fraser, who accused Ramaphosa and his head of protection, Major General Wally Roode, of covering up a 2020 theft at the farm.

Fraser alleged that the President concealed the crime from authorities and that the suspects had been kidnapped and interrogated. He also claimed the incident involved money laundering and corruption.

However, Limpopo DPP Advocate Mukhali Thenga announced that after a thorough review of the evidence provided by the Hawks, there was no reasonable chance of a successful prosecution.

The decision was made in line with the National Prosecuting Authority’s policy, which requires sufficient admissible evidence for a case to proceed.

Meanwhile, three suspects linked to the Phala Phala theft appeared in Modimolle Regional Court, facing charges including conspiracy and theft.

The case has been postponed to November 26 for a pre-trial conference, with one suspect, Imanuwela David, also facing a money laundering charge.
