Eastern Cape Hospitals and Clinics Face Medicine Shortage Due to Delivery Failures

Hospitals and clinics in the Eastern Cape are facing severe medicinal shortages as a result of delivery failures by a contracted company.
Despite supplies being available in a warehouse, the contractor has failed to transport the medicine to healthcare facilities, leaving many patients without essential care and causing the expiration of valuable medicinal stock.
Normally, medicines should be delivered within a day, but in the Eastern Cape, supplies often remain in the Mthatha warehouse for up to three months.
In some cases, expired medicines have been sent to hospitals and clinics, leading to the dangerous practice of giving patients outdated medication.
