EFF Claims Assassination Attempt On Its Gauteng Leader Nkululeko Dunga

Assassination Attempt on EFF Gauteng Chair Nkululeko Dunga Thwarted in Shocking Incident

An alleged assassination attempt on EFF Gauteng chair Nkululeko Dunga was narrowly avoided early Wednesday morning, according to the party.

Dunga, who previously served as the finance MMC for Ekurhuleni, was targeted at his home in Johannesburg.

The dangerous situation was averted by a brave security officer who engaged in a gunfight with at least three gunmen hiding on the roof of Dunga’s residence.

Party spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys revealed that a group of eight heavily armed assailants descended on Dunga’s home, where his partner, two children, and grandmother were present.

“At around midnight, suspicious footsteps were heard on the roof, prompting Dunga’s son to request a security check. By 2 AM, security personnel conducting rounds were ambushed and fired upon by armed intruders positioned on the roof,” Mathys explained.

The security guard retaliated, exchanging fire with at least three shooters before the remaining attackers fled the scene by jumping over a wall. “For two hours, these men lay in wait, ready to execute what was clearly a coordinated and premeditated attempt on the life of a revolutionary leader,” she added.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, but Mathys emphasized the seriousness of the ambush. The EFF believes the attack was well-coordinated and intended to assassinate its Gauteng leader.

The police responded quickly to the situation, collecting forensic evidence. The EFF expressed deep concern about the rising political violence in South Africa.

“This assassination attempt is part of a disturbing trend of violence targeting political figures and whistleblowers across the country,” Mathys stated.

“The growing lawlessness and the ease with which hired guns are used in these attacks reflect the state’s failure to protect its citizens. With the recent murders of whistleblower Babita Deokoran and former West Rand district municipality’s Refentse Mangope, political violence is becoming alarmingly normalized.”

As the situation unfolds, the EFF continues to call for increased protection for political leaders and a crackdown on the alarming rise in violence.
