Cato Manor Constable Arrested in Connection with Malvern Hijacking that Left 11-Year-Old Dead

A 27-year-old constable from Cato Manor has been arrested in connection with the tragic Malvern hijacking that claimed the life of 11-year-old Zarah Ramsamy.

The police officer was apprehended at his Seaview home in the early hours of this morning during an extensive operation led by multiple law enforcement units.

The constable was found in possession of a bank card belonging to Ramsamy’s parents, which was stolen during the September hijacking of their Toyota Fortuner.

Ramsamy, a Grade 5 pupil, tragically died after being run over by the hijackers as she attempted to hide underneath the vehicle. The hijacked SUV was later recovered, abandoned, that same night.

The overnight operation involved a coordinated effort from various units, including the DPCI Provincial Tracking Team, DPCI Anti-Gang Unit, Provincial TRT, PMB K9, Provincial Forensics Leads Unit, Metro Police Special Operations Directorate, SAPS CI eThekwini District, Fidelity SIU, Hawks Protection Services, and Magma Security & Investigations.

In addition to the stolen bank card, authorities also allegedly discovered brand-new cards, cellphones, and number plates in the officer’s possession.

Further arrests in connection with the hijacking are expected soon as investigations continue.
