Gospel Music Legend Solly Moholo Passes Away at 65

Gospel musician Solomon Molokoane, widely known as Solly Moholo, has sadly passed away at the age of 65, as announced by his management team.

A statement posted on his official Facebook page reads, “It is with great sadness that we are informing you on behalf of the Molokoane family that our beloved legend Solly Moholo has sadly passed on.”

Solly Moholo died on October 2, 2024, while hospitalized after falling ill following his pre-album launch tour in Botswana.

In August, he had traveled to Botswana to promote his upcoming album, Wubani O zo Pepeza. However, shortly after his performance, he fell ill at home and was rushed to the hospital.

A September update revealed that he had suffered a stroke and was experiencing multiple organ failure, prompting his family to seek urgent public financial support for his medical bills, totaling R700,000.

Known for his “endearing sound, look, and dance style,” Moholo rose to fame in the early 2000s, inspired by the Mokhukhu singers associated with the Zion Christian Church.

Throughout his career, he released several albums, including Tsoha Jonase Nice Time Ya Bolaya (2003), Mandela O Llela Bana (2006), Ba Mmitsa Tsotsi (2006), and Oa Ntaela Moya (2008). His latest single, Wubani o zo Pepeza, was released on September 15, just weeks before his passing.

His family has requested privacy as they mourn the loss of a beloved father, friend, and musical icon. They will share details regarding memorial and funeral arrangements on his official social media accounts soon.

May Solly Moholo’s laughter and healing music continue to resonate with fans and loved ones, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of many.
