BREAKING: Cilliers Brink Removed as City of Tshwane Mayor

DA’s Cilliers Brink Outsted As Tshwane Mayor

Cilliers Brink has been removed as the City of Tshwane mayor following a no-confidence motion passed by the African National Congress (ANC) on Thursday, 26 September.

A New Mayor for Tshwane Before the council meeting, Brink expressed concern about the future leadership undoing the disciplinary actions against municipal officials tied to the multi-million rand Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works tender.

ActionSA, previously part of the multi-party coalition led by the DA, withdrew and decided to support the motion to remove Brink.

Despite attempts by the DA to negotiate with the ANC, the motion was supported by both the ANC and ActionSA.

This could lead to a potential coalition between the ANC, ActionSA, and the EFF, as none of these parties hold enough seats to govern alone.

On Thursday, 120 councillors voted to remove Brink, while 87 opposed the motion, and one councillor abstained.

DA Criticizes ActionSA’s Move DA caucus leader Kwena Moloto criticized ActionSA’s decision, stating that their poor performance in the upcoming 2024 general election might have pushed them to align with a faction of the ANC.

This faction, led by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, is also behind the ANC’s controversial coalitions with the EFF in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.
