Woman-Led Kidnapping Plot Foiled: Five Arrested, Vehicles Seized

On 2024/07/31, information was received about a South African woman plotting to kidnap her employer and force a R3-million transfer from her business account.
A Section 252A application was approved, and agents equipped with surveillance gear were deployed.
On 2024/08/23, an operation plan was executed, with the victim’s family and a bank informed. A “mock kidnapping” was carried out, during which R50,000 was transferred to a “ghost account.”
The woman arranged for her boyfriend to facilitate further withdrawals, leading to a meeting at Melrose Arch where four men agreed to withdraw funds for a commission.
All four suspects were arrested for conspiracy to kidnap and extortion.
Three vehicles and ten cellphones were seized. Those detained include one South African, two Ugandans, and one Malawian.
