Zondo Reflects on Career Challenges at Farewell Dinner

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, who is set to retire at the end of August, was honored at a farewell dinner in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, on Tuesday night.

The event featured speeches from notable figures including former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, Supreme Court of Appeals President Mahube Molemela, Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Thembi Simelane.

In his moving address, Zondo expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career, particularly his late mother.

He spoke candidly about the difficulties and disappointments he faced, including his challenging role as chairperson of the state capture commission of inquiry.

Zondo emphasized the importance of perseverance and institutional independence within the judiciary, noting that while he may not see immediate results, he remains hopeful for future progress.
