Fikile Mbalula on ANC’s Coalition Talks: “EFF Gave Us 10 Commandments to Answer”

In a recent discussion, Fikile Mbalula shed light on the intricacies and challenges faced by the ANC during coalition talks. Mbalula revealed that, contrary to some public perceptions, the ANC did not approach the DA for governance support but instead turned to the EFF, viewing them as ideological allies on the left.

Mbalula described the ANC’s outreach to the EFF as a natural alignment due to their shared political stance. However, the EFF responded with a firm rejection, citing corruption within the ANC as their primary reason for declining the coalition offer. Mbalula recounted his attempts to bridge the gap, explaining how he engaged directly with Julius Malema’s party.

He humorously shared that the EFF provided the ANC with a list of ten stringent demands, likening the experience to completing a difficult homework assignment.

Mbalula’s anecdote highlighted the difficult and challenging nature of these political negotiations, as he detailed the process of drafting responses and submitting them to EFF leadership, only to have them meticulously reviewed and marked.
