Police Seize Illicit Cigarettes Worth Thousands in Operation Vala Umgodi

In Polokwane, a joint operation known as Operation Vala Umgodi was conducted involving various law enforcement agencies, resulting in the seizure of illicit cigarettes believed to have been smuggled from Zimbabwe.

The operation, which included the SAPS Border Policing Team, South African National Defence Force, South National Park Rangers, and the South African Revenue Service, Customs, recovered a cargo of about 66 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at R300,000.

Additionally, two male suspects were arrested for liquor-related offenses, and hundreds of rands worth of alcohol were confiscated.

Furthermore, 29 foreign nationals were apprehended for contravening immigration laws.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon.
